About Drive Tek

Van Wyk & Associate Inc., d/b/a DRIVE TEK: Driver Education Driving Technologies, is an Iowa Corporation, founded by Pauline and Rod Van Wyk in 1991. Drive Tek is located in Ankeny, Iowa and has remained in its current location since 1991.

In 1992, the Company entered into an agreement with a local private youth driver education school to develop a prototype Skid Control School for young drivers and tested it in the Des Moines area. It appeared that the same skills taught by the equipment used by Mr. Van Wyk in driver training for police officers could be used in preparing the young driver for the driving environment.

The central piece of this program featured a device called a "Skid-Car". The Skid-Car is an intricate hydraulic system that fits underneath the vehicle. The Skid-Car system, developed in Sweden, with it's system of hydraulics and out-rigger wheels allows the instructors to simulate various road conditions and consequently various skid control techniques in a safe low speed setting. This program was successful and received notice in the Des Moines Register in March of 1993. The Skid-Car program was also presented to the Iowa Association of Safety Education in November of 1992.

The program was discontinued at the end of 1993 when the company accepted and agreed to manage Eddyville Raceway Park in Eddyville, Iowa at the request of Mr. Carl Moyer after he had purchased the track in early 1993. The company managed the Raceway through the 1993 and 1994 season. At the end of the 1994 season it had become obvious that the Raceway needed a full-time manager. The company declined to take on this responsibility at that time and assisted Mr. Moyer in securing a full-time manager.

In January of 1997, due to the untimely death of Mr Nolan Duncalf president of Automotion Driving Schools, Van Wyk and Associates Inc was able to secure some assets of Automotion as well as the copyright to their curriculum.

The name of the company was changed to DRIVE TEK, Driver Education Driving Technologies to better reflect the goals and over all mission and new direction of the company.

Currently Drive Tek is under contract with Charles City, Colfax, Decorah, Iowa Valley Community College at Grinnell, Keokuk, Martensdale-St Marys, Mason City, Ottumwa and Waterloo Community School Districts.

Drive Tek offers private programs at Ames, Ankeny, Des Moines, Fort Dodge, Newton, Oskaloosa and West Des Moines.
